RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA – CHECK FRAUD

On 8/31/21, at approximately 6:43 p.m., a jewelry store was victimized with a check fraud incident by a subject using the name Chris Valentino.  A check bearing the same name was also recently passed at another jewelry store as well as jewelry stores in past years. The merchandise fraudulently purchased has varied amongst link bracelets, earrings, and watches.  The subject has verbally identified himself as a physician and wore blue scrubs with a blue disposable mask in visits to several jewelry stores. When the checks have been processed via the point of sale, stores have received a “code 3” (check falls outside of Telecheck guidelines) and/or “code 0” (call into Telecheck’s authorization center), however, the subject has verbally provided a code which has been entered and accepted into the point of sale.  The subject was described as a Black male in his mid 40’s. Rancho Cucamonga Sheriff’s Department was notified and an investigation was initiated.  Should you experience a visit by this subject, please contact the Jewelers’ Security Alliance at jsa2@jewelerssecurity.org or 212-687-0328.
