Smash & Grab Suspects Arrested

May 7, 2020 - Tracy, CA

On the date listed above, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the featured suspect, Richard Hoffman, 28, and his accomplice Jeffrey Potter, 30, committed a smash and grab robbery at a store that sells jewelry.

The suspects entered the store wearing N95 masks and sunglasses. One of the suspects smashed display cases with a mallet. The other suspect positioned their getaway vehicle near the entrance outside the store. When the suspect inside the store saw an employee running towards him, he ran outside and entered the getaway vehicle. The driver of the getaway vehicle pointed a gun at the employee, before the vehicle sped away.� The suspects stole approximately $150,000 worth of jewelry.

Detectives from the Tracy Police Department worked with investigators from Livermore police to arrest Potter on May 16. At the time Hoffman was identified as a suspect, he was already arrested on unrelated charges in Castro Valley on May 14.
