On 12/31/20, in the afternoon, a suspect later identified as 26-year-old Shampayle Strother, went into a department store and inquired about seeing jewelry. When the 89-year-old clerk started to unlock the drawer, the subject reached over. The clerk put her hand out and said, ‘No.’ The suspect used his other hand to hit the clerk on the side of the head. He knocked her into the counter and then onto the floor.

The punch left the clerk bruised, bleeding and unconscious. The subject fled from the scene. He was ultimately identified by witnesses who knew him. A tip led to his arrest on 1/4/21 at a library parking lot. When police found him, he was wearing gold necklaces that he stole from the store.

The clerk is 4’11 and weighs 89 lbs. Click here to view a clip about the arrest and the robbery.
