Suspect arrested after smash & grab robbery

Long Island, NY – On March 8, 2021, at approximately 1:40 p.m., 22-year-old John Hernandez used a small bat to smash a jewelry store’s display case.

He removed several pieces of jewelry valued at $18,000. He then put them in his backpack and fled from the store. Shortly after the robbery, officers found Hernandez in the back of a home and arrested him.

He was charged with false personation, grand larceny, possession of a weapon, two counts of criminal mischief, and two counts of robbery.
