59-year-old owner shot during robbery inside Queens jewelry store

Corona, Queens, NY (WABC) — The owner of a jewelry shop in Queens was shot during a robbery inside their store on December 12, 2023, according to police. Officers responded to the Corona, NY business around 6:30 p.m. for reports of a person shot. They found a 59-year-old man, the store’s owner, with gunshot wounds.

Officials say three men burst into the store and cleaned it out. One eyewitness said they were helping a client in the store when the group of male subjects came in, wearing face masks and glasses. At least one subject opened fire, hitting the owner in the right thigh and grazing him in the head. The witness said they ran to one of the back rooms in the shop and heard the two gunshots. The subjects then fled the scene on mopeds with an undisclosed amount of jewelry. The victim was taken to Elmhurst Hospital, where he’s expected to survive.

Eyewitness News reporter Josh Einiger spoke to one neighbor about the shooting. “You know it’s sad because we hear it so often,” neighbor Jenny Hyunh said. “Now hopefully it won’t happen again.” No arrests have been made.
