La Paz, Bolivia – On July 13, 2017, four armed suspects, some carrying machine guns, robbed a jewelry store. The suspects held several employees hostage and used them as human shields as they were leaving the store.
As police arrived on the scene, a shootout ensued. Three suspects were killed, as well as a police lieutenant. A store employee was killed inside the store and the general manager of the store was also killed
Five other individuals were injured. According to investigators, the suspects killed were Brazilian nationals who were members of a Sao Paulo-based organized crime ring.
