DISTRACTION THEFT – MISHAWAKA, IN

On 7/14/19, at approximately 5:20 p.m., a male and female subject entered a jewelry store and moved to the diamond bridal and loose diamond showcases. The subjects stated that they were waiting for a particular sales associate who was assisting another guest at the time. The subjects waited for approximately 25 minutes before they were able to converse with the associate. The female subject told the associate that she had assisted her mother previously. She complimented the associate on her patience and said they wanted to deal with her.

The subjects asked to see several loose diamonds. While the sales associate was showing the female subject a diamond, the male subject placed the female subject’s jacket and purse on the counter. He then began pointing at other diamonds he wanted to see. � As the sales associate reached into the showcase, the male subject leaned over and removed a loose diamonds and its certification card. The subjects then left the store.

The first subject was described as a Black male with a medium to dark complexion. He is 5’10” and has a medium to heavy build. He is 250 lbs. He is in his late 40’s and was wearing a black ball cap with a reflective design on the top of his hat.

The second subject is 5’9” and has a medium to light complexion. She is Black and weighs approximately 280 lbs. and is in her late 40’s to early 50’s. She was last seen wearing an apron style dress with white over red. She also wore sunglasses with a bandana in her hair which was in a bun style. These subjects have committed similar thefts in Bolingbrook, IL, and Indianapolis, IN.
