Oakland County, MI – On October 10, 2024, at 10:00 p.m., two men wearing high-visibility vests were captured on Ring camera footage announcing themselves as being from DTE, an energy company based in Detroit, MI.
The men had come to a home in Rochester Hills, MI where 72-year-old jeweler, Hussein Murray (featured) had lived with his wife.
The two men had claimed they were checking for gas leaks. They did not gain entry into the house that night, but they returned to the home the following day around noon, at which time they were allowed into the home. Murray’s wife told police that Murray brought the men into the basement to check for the purported gas leak.
Eventually, police arrived at the scene and found Murray’s wife tied up with duct tape. Officers found Murray’s body in the basement, where there was a significant amount of blood. Murray had died as a result of his injuries. The exact manner of Murray’s death has not yet been determined.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard has advised people to be cautious of those claiming to be from a utility company or another company seeking to gain access to their homes.
As of Saturday evening, one suspect was arrested, while another remains at large. Sheriff Bouchard announced the following:
“We can’t release a lot of information at this point but wanted to communicate that in conjunction with our great partners we have suspect number one, the Hispanic male shown in the video, in custody in Shreveport, Louisiana”
Bouchard also said “We are communicating with the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on formal charges and meanwhile, we continue to encourage the public to give us any information or tips about suspect number two”
