NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A man stole two gold chains valued at almost $35,000 from a Tanger Outlet jewelry store in North Charleston Friday, according to police reports.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department responded to the Kay Jewelers Tanger Outlet location around 12:20 p.m. on April 10. The incident report states that an employee at the store said a man walked in looking for gold chains. He reportedly asked the employee to see a thick yellow gold 20 inch Cuban link chain worth almost $20,000 before asking to see a different chain, a yellow gold 22 inch gold curb chain worth around $15,000.

The employee told officers that he informed the suspect he could only remove one chain at a time from the glass display case, and as the suspect went to give him back the Cuban link chain, he took the gold curb chain in his other hand and acted as if he was feeling the weight of each.

It was then that the suspect took off and fled the store in the direction of the Palmetto Moon, according to the report. The employee told officers the suspect did not use force or threaten him, and that the next thing he knew, the suspect had both chains.
