Update: Suspect arrested following brutal murder of pawnshop owner

May 18, 2022 - Queens, NY

On April 17, 2022, Arasb Shoughi, 60, a pawnshop owner, died as a result of injuries he sustained during a violent robbery. On March 28, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., a male subject entered Shoughi’s pawnshop and proceeded to violently beat Shoughi with a metal rod.

The subject escaped with various pieces of jewelry. The Jewelers’ Security Alliance (JSA) is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the subject below. Update: On May 18, 2022, investigators from the New York Police Department (NYPD) arrested and charged 48-year-old Rondolfo Lopez-Portillo of Hollis, Queens, NY. Detectives from the NYPD’s fugitive task force traced Lopez-Portillo to Maryland. He was brought back to the NYPD’s 103rd precinct in Queens, where he was charged with robbery, criminal possession of a weapon, and murder in connection to Arasb Shoughi’s death.
