Suspect confessed to burglary & blamed crime on drug addiction

Spring Hill, Fl – On March 18, 2020, at approximately 2:00 a.m.. Hernando County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a man throwing bricks at a front window of a jewelry store.

The suspect, later identified as Buster Lanard Petaway, 53, broke the store’s window and got into the store. Petaway then used the brick to break glasses cases. He proceeded to steal jewelry.

After he stole jewelry, he got into a waiting vehicle and left the area. After reviewing surveillance footage, detectives were able to identify the getaway vehicle. Deputies then went to Petaway’s house. Petaway surrendered and confessed that he committed the burglary because of his drug addiction.
