UK Police Arrest Fugitive Jeweler Nirav Modi

March 19, 2019 - London

On the date listed above, law enforcement in London arrested 48-year-old Billionaire Nirav Modi.

In August 2018, India requested Modi’s extradition from Britain. Modi is alleged to have been a key figure in a two-billion-dollar loan fraud at India’s Punjab National Bank (PNB).

Modi is due to appear in court on March 20, 2019, at Westminster Magistrates Court. In July 2018, Interpol issued a red notice; which alerts police worldwide about international fugitives.

PNB bank has indicated that Modi along with his uncle Mehul Choksi defrauded them by raising credit from other banks and using illegal guarantees provided by corrupt PNB employees.
