DISTRACTION THEFT – EDISON, NJ

On 6/23/16, at approximately 5:48 pm, a subject held a catalog in hand and asked a sales associate to see a ring from a particular case. While he was looking at the ring, he held it at a distance, to distract the sales associate. The subject then told the sales associate that he needed to speak with his wife before he could proceed. Later that night, the sales associate noticed that three diamond rings were missing. Surveillance footage was able to capture three subjects involved in the theft. The first subject brought in the catalog. The second subject, squatted near the entrance of the store. The third subject stayed at the entrance, but communicated with the second subject by using hand signals. This allowed the second subject to go into the store and grab the three rings. All three subjects are black males. The first subject was described as 6’ tall with a dark complexion. He had a beard and wore a white Florida t-shirt, black cap and black jeans. The second subject had a medium complexion and wore a black knit cap, and a tan shirt with shorts. He also wore black sneakers. The third subject had a medium complexion. He wore a red polo shirt, tan shorts, sunglasses with a gold trim and a cargo cap. DISTRACTION THEFT – CABAZON, CA

On 6/23/16, a sales associate assisted a couple in viewing high-end watches. The couple decided that they wanted to purchase two watches. While the couple and the sales associate were at the counter, the couple asked the sales associate if they could see gift wrapping paper. As the sales associate turned to retrieve the wrapping paper, surveillance footage showed the female subject remove the watch from the box it was placed in. She then returned an empty box to the sales associate. After the sales associate quoted the price of the two watches, the couple claimed they did not have enough money to make a purchase. They said they would come back with more money and asked the associate to gift wrap the watches. The associate wrapped the items, but later became suspicious and opened the items; the box was empty. The male subject is described as 20-years-old and Hispanic. He has brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a black polo shirt, blue jeans and a gold belt buckle. The female subject is described as 35-years-old and Hispanic. She weighs approximately 195 pounds. Her hair was under a printed wrap. She was last seen wearing a blue and white printed blouse and skirt. She also has gold capped side teeth. SMASH AND GRAB – PORTLAND, OREGON

On 6/22/13, at approximately 1:35 pm, a subject went directly to a high end watch case and proceeded to remove a hand-held sledgehammer from his waist. He smashed the top of the glass repeatedly until it broke. He then grabbed 3 watches before running out of the store. The subject was caught by good Samaritans and they managed to apprehend him. The subject was bleeding from his arm after he cut himself on the glass display case.

SMASH AND GRAB – TROY, MI

On 6/21/16, at approximately 6:15 p.m., two suspects removed small hammers and began to break display cases of jewelry. The suspects escaped with about 6 watches. Both suspects are described as Black males. The first suspect wore a white shirt, tan jacket and blue jean shorts. The second suspect wore a dark purple shirt and black pants. GRAB AND RUN – PORT ARTHUR, TX

On 6/20/16, at approximately 6:20 p.m., a subject asked to see wedding sets. He spent twenty to thirty minutes in the location. When the sales associate took a piece from the case and had it in her hand, the subject asked if he could see how heavy it was. She gave it to him and he then fled from the location with the set. The subject was described as an African American in his late 20’s. He is 5’11 and weighs 200lbs. He has very short hair and wore sunglasses with a navy blue thermal type shirt. He also wore jeans and work boots. He looked as if he were coming from work. JEWELER MISCONDUCT – VENTURA, CA

On 6/16/16, a Ventura jewelry store owner named Ara Ghazarian, 54 was arrested. He is accused of switching customer’s diamonds with moissanite. In May 2016, one of Ghazarian’s customers knew something was wrong with her ring. When she took it to second jeweler, he informed her that the diamond was replaced with moissanite. Another victim had a similar experience, when a family heirloom ring was replaced with moissanite. Ghazsrian was arrested on two counts of grand theft.

GRAB AND RUN – ASHEVILLE, N.C.

On 6/13/16, at approximately 5:55 p.m. a subject was shown two pieces of jewelry and then grabbed them and fled from the store. The male subject was wearing white pants with a blue and white striped button down shirt. The subject also had blonde hair and blue eyes. DIAMOND SWITCH – FLORENCE, AL

On 6/15/16, at approximately 2:45 p.m., a female subject inquired about silver diamond bands. She was shown an anniversary band that matched her description. Then the subject’s sister entered the store asking questions, which gave the subject the opportunity to remove the tag from the ring. The tag fell on the floor and a CZ anniversary ring was returned to the sales associate. The subject left the store with the diamond anniversary ring. The subject was later spotted in the mall and arrested.

SNEAK THEFT – PANAMA CITY, FL

On 6/13/16, at approximately 8:45 p.m., two guests were shopping for jewelry with a sales associate. As one guest was deciding on purchasing a ring, the other guest was left unattended for approximately five minutes with a gold plated chain. When the sales associate was finished with the first guest, she turned to help the second guest. At that point she realized the second guest had left and had taken the chain. The suspect is described as an African American male. He is thin and 6’5.” He is believed to be in his late 30’s and has a slight mustache. He was last seen wearing jeans and a black shirt with red highlights to match the headphones he had on. DISTRACTION THEFT – GREENDALE, WI

On 6/11/16, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a sales associate was assisting a male and female couple. The male subject asked to see a pair of gold diamond earrings. The sales associate presented the earrings on a presentation pad. The female subject then began to inquire about bridal sets. The sales associate turned her back to calculate the price. When she turned back around, the items on the presentation pad were gone. The male subject is described as Black male in his late 20’s. He is 5’8” and weighs 300 pounds. He is dark skin and has tattoos on both arms. He wore a black baseball hat, black tank top and black cargo shorts. The female subject is Black and also in her late 20’s. She is 5’7”, dark skin and weighs 180 pounds. She wore a black tank top with a black skirt. She also had curly hair.
